Seth-opinion

Although Richard Peck may lead people to believe Seth is a ghost, Seth is a real boy. His human actions, the little house outside the girls window and are clear evidence layed down in the text that bring Seth to life and send him on his way, off to war.

To start, in the beginning of the story Seth did things that the other ghosts never did. For example, Seth was the only ghost that talked. In the text no other ghost talked. Also Seth was the only ghost that aged. On page 7 it said, “I hadn’t known ghosts grew...” Peck illustrates on page 7 "In the summer after sixth grade, I got a licking I didn't deserve. In a burst of housecleaning, Aunt Margaret took a feather duster to my room and discovered bits of burned tobacco in the corner." Seth also smoked. the other ghosts never smoked.
Beyond the beginning came the middle of the story when years passed with out seeing Seth. On page, “I stopped looking for him, and so he was not there.” Also, it said, “ I’d have left that house, that life, without a backward thought, except Seth returned.

My last reasoning is, in the end of the story Seth did many human like things. For example, when she looked out her window she noticed the door was open to the little cabin outside. When the door was open Seth was there, so therefore I believe Seth lived in the little cabin. Also, in the text it said, “ I heard his boots on the floor, stealthy, but real.

All an all, I think Seth is a real boy. Hence the things he did that other ghosts didn’t do, when she didn’t see him for a few years, and the things that Seth did that were human like. That is my opinion if Seth is real or a ghost.
